The Course

About

Portland Country Club is a beautiful public golf course located in Portland, Michigan. Our course is open to the public 7 days a week, weather permitting. Once a homestead owned by Laban Atwater Smith, Portland Country Club became Portland's original golf course. After being used for farming for many years, the original golf course was constructed in 1926.

In November 1926, a meeting of the members was called by the first President, S.A. Horning, to discuss the course's future. At this meeting, a motion was made and carried to organize a new course. Howard Benson of Lansing and Charles Lockwood of Portland agreed to provide enough land for 18 holes. The new course officially opened in July 1927 and has been in continuous operation ever since.

Portland Country Club sits on a beautifully manicured 80 acres of pure rolling terrain, and mature trees frame the fairways with well-placed bunkers and water hazards for any level golfer. Our 18-hole golf course plays to a solid 6,100 yards and is a true test for all kinds of players. Come and play golf like the way it was designed when golf was just starting at Portland Country Club - the best public golf course in Michigan!
